Virgin Racing Team inks technical assistance agreement with McLaren-Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that Virgin Racing Team have recently signed a partnership with McLaren-Mercedes which means that McLaren are now going to help the new team improve its performance in Formula 1.
McLaren have a similar deal with Force India as well. This means that VRT will now have access to McLaren’s facilities which includes test rigs, simulators, wind tunnel and computer technology.
Other than that, the technical staff of McLaren will also help VRT improve its car and performance.
VRT chief Andy Webb said the team needs some quality to match its ambitions. He said, “When we undertook our detailed review of the team in the first half of 2011, it was clear that our bold ambitions for the future would need to be matched with some equally
bold steps towards achieving them.”
He added that this deal will definitely help the team improve its performance in the long run and to have people from a team like McLaren is going to be quite exciting for the staff of VRT.
“I am delighted that in a relatively short space of time we are now in the fantastic position of being able to make these two very important announcements, which will enable us to make some dramatic strides forward with immediate effect,” said Webb.
However, this is just a technical partnership which means that the management and other aspects of the team will not be affected in any way.
Since McLaren are one of the most legendary teams of the sport, Webb claims that VRT will benefit enormously as a result of this deal.
Other than that, the chief of Virgin stated that the two teams can start working together immediately as the deal has already been taken care of. He said that VRT need to benefit the most this year from this deal in order to improve its performance by the
start of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
