Virgin Racing Team reveal new car
Virgin Racing Team has unveiled their new car for the 2011 Formula 1 season at the BBC Television Centre in London. Last year, both the car and the team lacked performance and were unable to be competitive amongst the other teams. The team is expecting better
results in 2011 and in order to ensure that, Virgin Racing Team came up with a new car for the upcoming season which they call the “MVR-02”. Unlike most of the other front-running teams, the new car will not be using the Kinetic Energy Recovery System for
the season.
KERS is a device that converts heat energy into kinetic energy before storing it for later use. After a certain amount of energy has been stored, the driver can then use that energy as a sort of a “boost” and gain some sort of advantage whenever he wants.
It is believed that KERS will play a vital role in 2011 but Virgin Racing Team is pretty confident that they will be better than they were in 2011 and they will try their best to finish more races and score some points as well. It is important for the team
to improve its performance, if they are to have any chance of success in the 2011 season.
The MVR-02 has been designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics rather than the usual wind tunnel used by most of the teams. Drivers Timo Glock and Jerome d’Ambrosio are expected to team alongside each other this season. The team’s technical director is
hoping that both of them use the new car to its maximum potential.
Since the car has been designed using superior technology than last year, it is expected that the aerodynamics and pace are going to be much more competitive than last year. The team is expecting a quick race pace out of the new car.
With the reintroduction of KERS and movable rear wings, it is believed that the back running teams might face some problems in terms of pace.
Nevertheless, Virgin Racing Team launched its new car in the presence of their new shareholders Marussia, who are expecting some good results from the team in 2011.
