Virgin Racing Team to launch their 2011 car on the 7th of February
Virgin Racing Team has confirmed that they will be launching their 2011 Formula 1 car on the 7th of February. This means that the team will not use their new car at the first pre-season test session that is expected
to take place in Valencia starting from the 1st of February.
Virgin is a new team that became a part of Formula 1 in 2010 alongside two other new teams, Lotus Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team (HRT). The team was unable to give a good performance in its debut year. Both of its drivers
were unable to score a single point and as a result, the team ended up at the tail end of the constructors’ standings.
Nevertheless, they are hoping for a better performance in 2011 as they are now aware of how the sport goes and they are used to the mechanics of a Formula 1 car.
The team has not announced its official drivers’ line-up but it is expected that they will keep both of their drivers Jerome D’Ambrosio and Timo Glock but it has not been confirmed yet by the team officially.
Their new car is going to be called the MVR-02 and “M” stands for Marussia – their new Russian partners. The car will be revealed in London just a few days before the second pre-season test session which is expected to take place
in Jerez, Spain.
However, it is going to be interesting to see the advancements they have made on their new car as they hope to outperform both HRT and Team Lotus in 2011.
The team revealed a couple of weeks ago that they will not use KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) in their 2011 car despite the fact that the device is legal for 2011 and most of the top running teams plan to use it in their
new cars.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be quite exhilarating and unique from the past couple of seasons and most of the back running teams are hoping to give a promising performance this year. Otherwise, they might not be able to
continue in Formula 1 after this season.
