Virgin Racing hopeful of upgrades to bring improvements in Turkey – Formula 1 Update
Recent reports have revealed that Formula 1 Virgin Racing team is hopeful that upgrades, which will be introduced in their new car at the Turkish Grand Prix on May 8, will get the team back on track.
The team has announced that they will deliver the major aerodynamic upgrade in the MVR-02 car, at the up-coming race weekend. The purpose to introduce this upgrade in the 2011 car is to enable the Virgin team to put in a good run at the Istanbul Park track.
During the ongoing season’s races, Virgin admitted that their new machine has not produced the down-force level expected on the grid. However, they started work on the car and made some improvements to achieve their success on the circuit.
Virgin Racing boss John Booth said, "The extent of our upgrade package for the start of the European season is significant to say the least. Aerodynamically it's a new direction for us and we're hopeful that it will help us start to turn the corner, although
with such a major step it may take us some time to tune it to the race track.”
He went on to add, "We are of course mindful of the fact that everyone should have taken a step forward ready for Europe, so we will have to see how we've fared versus the rest of the field."
The team kicked off to a tough season, as both their drivers, Timo Glock and Jerome D'Ambrosio failed to put a good run in the Australian grid. Glock was unable to classify on the result sheet, as he has experienced some issues during his race.
The Malaysia race again proved unlucky for the team, as their driver D’Ambrosio retired from the race due after having an accident. Both drivers participated in the recent Chinese race with hopes of performing well on the track. However, the previous updates
have not showed their benefits over the race. As a result, the team finished their run without a single point.
The team boss informed that only Glock will run with the full upgraded package in the next race, which is to be held in Turkey on May 8, as his team-mate D’Ambrosio has to wait until the Spanish Grand Prix.
