Virgin Racing team confirm signing Robert Wickens as reserve driver – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that Formula 1 Virgin Racing team has confirmed Robert Wickens as a reserve driver for the team.
Wickens, who was driving in the GP3 series in 2010, has joined the Virgin team for the season. However, no announcement has been made about whether he will take part in Friday practice sessions or not in the remainder of the Formula 1 season.
The Canadian racing driver is quite happy, as he believes that he can make an impact on the Formula 1 platform.
He said, “I am delighted to be confirmed as a reserve driver with Virgin Racing. It's an exciting time for me and Canadian motorsport.”
Wickens went on to mention, “The support of Marussia Motors and the Marussia Virgin Racing team has been fantastic, and I am dedicated to repaying that faith in me by contributing everything I can to assist the team's objectives in Formula One this year.”
Apart from that, the team’s performance in the ongoing season is quite poor. They are still unable to move in the right direction.
The Marussia Virgin Racing team kicked off to a poor season, as their both drivers, Jerome d’Ambrosio and Timo Glock failed to impress on the grid.
Due to several issues in their car, they did not seem to move a step ahead in the season.
In the recently held Monaco Grand Prix, Glock retired from the race due to a suspension issue with his car. His teammate d’Ambrosio had a trouble-free race and finished his run in the 15th place.
However, the drivers admitted that the car has been unable to play a supportive role for them in this season so far.
Virgin Racing team will bring new updates in their 2011 car at the Canadian Grand Prix and are hopeful that they will impress in Montreal.
The Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on June 12, 2011 in Montreal. Let’s see if Virgin are able to impress there.
