Virgin Racing team driver Timo Glock says Monza is a fantastic track – Formula 1 news
Virgin Racing Team driver Timo Glock has said that Monza is a fantastic track in Formula 1 and that he always enjoy racing at this track as it is one of the fastest circuits in the sport’s calendar.
Glock added that he is sure the Monza Grand Prix will be the most challenging race of the 2011 Formula 1 season due to the nature of the racetrack.
Talking to reporters, the German said, “The track is generally flat, but has gradual gradient from the second Lesmos to the Variante Ascari and the grip here is very low due to the aerodynamic profile needed. Understeer is also more of an issue here than
at other tracks.”
The VRT driver went on to mention, “I always enjoy driving at this fantastic track as it’s the fastest on the Formula One calendar so it’s always a real challenge. The Variante Ascari is probably one of my favourite parts of the track as well as the Parabolica,
where the real challenge is to brake as late as possible.”
With regards to Glock’s performance in the ongoing season, he has failed to score a single point for his team during his races so far.
In the last race of the 2011 F1 season, the 29-year-old driver was unable to show his better performance on the grid. He started his 2011 Belgium Grand Prix from the 19th place on the grid and after struggling with his MVR-02 car,
he ended up at the 18th position ahead of Hispania Racing Team driver Vitantonio Liuzzi, who finished his race in the 19th spot.
On the other hand, the Virgin Racing Team boss John Booth told the media that they have made some changes and developments in their car for the rest of the season.
He mentioned that the team specially focused on the power engine and aerodynamic efficiency of their car. However, he added that he believes both of the drivers can do a real race in the Italian Grand Prix with their better package.
The Italian Grand Prix will start from September 9, 2011 at the Monza racetrack.
Let’s see how Glock performs in Italy this weekend following his disappointing results so far.
