Virgin Racing’s boss John Booth optimistic for a positive show in Turkish Grand Prix
Virgin Racing’s boss, John Booth, was optimistic about his team’s chances in the upcoming race of the Formula 1, 2011 season in Turkey on Sunday, May 8th. The team has failed to make an impression until now, but aims to bring major upgrades for
the next event, which might help them score their maiden points in the sport.
According to Booth, “The extent of our upgrade package for the start of the European season is significant to say the least. Aerodynamically it's a new direction for us and we're hopeful that it will help us start to turn the corner, although with such a
major step it may take us some time to tune it to the race track.”
He further added, “We've been working hard behind the scenes since the middle of February and this weekend sees the culmination of all those efforts when we will be able to see just how much we can progress now.”
However, Virgin’s boss clarified that the upgrades will only be for relatively experienced driver, Timo Glock, whereas his teammate, Jerome D’Ambrosio, will have to wait for the Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday, May 22.
Most teams have planned updates for the next race of the season, as there was a three-week gap between the last race and the upcoming one. Virgin will be hoping to perform better than other new teams like Lotus and Hispania Racing Team (HRT).
All these teams debuted in the previous season and were unable to score any point. However, their aim was to out perform each other, as they didn’t have the overall package to finish among points.
Lotus proved to be the best amongst these teams and looked in a better shape to score points this season. Their performances in the winter testing were promising, considering this was their second season.
Both drivers, Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, failed to live up to the expectations though and appear to be in a similar state like last year. The team will wait until the Spanish GP for the major upgrades and will rely on some minor developments for
the Turkish GP.
