Virgin Trains Seat Reservation

How long before a train journey is it possible to reserve a seat on Virgin Trains services? It's just I intend to go to London later this month but the online booking service says reservations are not yet available for this journey.

  1. You normally book a reservation at the same time as you buy the ticket, and the schedules should be on the computer 12 weeks in advance ("should" being the operative word!). If you're planning to travel at the weekend, there may be a problem because engineering work in the Rugby area means that Virgin trains don't usually run south of Birmingham International / Coventry on Saturdays and Sundays, and the need to switch to coaches and local trains at the southern end of the line may mean that they've not got reservations sorted out for the bulk of the journey.

Similarly, I don't know if they've sorted out the schedules for August Bank Holiday Monday yet.

  2. You can reserve the seat when you book online, it was free last year so I would imagine it still will be.

  3. Seats are reserved at the time of booking your ticket.
