Virgin boss John Booth says aerodynamic updates will hopefully deliver in Turkey – Formula 1
Virgin’s John Booth is hoping for a great Turkish Grand Prix after new upgrades have been installed in their 2011 car, MVR-02. Booth added that the 2011 season started badly for the Virgin team but the new upgrades will hopefully live up to expectations.
Commenting on Virgin’s performance, John said, “By our own admission it's been a difficult start to the year, but we actually started doing something about that when we realised back in testing that we had not met our targets.” John further added that the
team’s performance was hindered because the car was not producing enough down force.
John said that every team will be doing upgrades like the Virgin team. “The extent of our upgrade package for the start of the European season is significant to say the least. Aerodynamically it's a new direction for us and we're hopeful that it will help
us start to turn the corner, although with such a major step it may take us some time to tune it to the race track,” added John.
However, John stated that the full upgrades will only be given to the team’s senior driver, Timo Glock, while the rookie, Jerome D’Ambrosio, will have to wait until the Spanish Grand Prix to utilise the new upgrades.
Fighting for the lower ranks in the Formula 1 arena, the Virgin team has failed to live up to the expectations of their fans. Virgin’s duo, Jerome and Glock, have not been able to challenge the likes of Lotus and Williams.
In the first three races of the Formula 1 2011 season, Virgin team have failed to finish the race. In Australia, the season opener, only Jerome finished the race in 14th place. In the Malaysian Grand Prix, Timo finished the race but in the 16th
spot while Jerome had an accident in the 42nd lap of the race. Both drivers finished in the Chinese Grand Prix but with no reasonable results.
Nevertheless, the first race of the European part of the 2011 season will be contested in three days time. It will be interesting to see how Virgin upgrades perform in Glock’s car.
