  1. I agree with medium dave

  2. I have to say I couldn't recommend Virgin. Too many broken promises and poor service. Their phone is one of the most expensive and there's not the option to use other providers that you'd get with a BT line.

Their broadband is fast, but it appears to be "shaped" to restrict some applications and filesharing. Don't even get me started on their TV packages and how you might be better with Sky or even a Freeview box.

2 Mbits is not slow for email/web browsing but may be if you plan to download lots of files. Beware of any packages (from any company) that has usage limits though.

  3. 2meg broadband is fine.

As for virgin packages - their bundles (TV, phone, internet) are quite good. I like their broadband service - fast enough, and uncapped.

On the downside, their call charges are quite high, so if you use the phone a lot, you may want to look elsewhere.

EDIT: for the numpty above - ask yourself how often you need speeds in excess of 200k a second. Ask yourself how often you'll find a server that will provide data at 10mb/s, even if your connection is capable of receiving it.

I have 2meg, and it's rarely maxed out. Being uncapped is much more important than bandwidth.

I can personally assure you that they do not shape traffic to inhibit filesharing, particularly - if you go over 400megs between 4-12pm, you get put on the Naughty Step, which limits your speed for four hours - but it's still useable.

  4. Try here for info:-http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/spe... - I've got 10mb which is fast enough for me... if you want your broadband to be fast, 2mb IS too slow for you.

  5. Cheapest is £4.50 per month if you order phone line with them -  so it makes total £15.50 a month. One of the cheapest deals in the UK. Their service is quite good. Many people rate it quite well - see here - http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/c...
