Virgin landline, does it works like a bt landline?

Hi, im planning to sign a good broadband provider like o2/bethere and for this i need a landline. so bt is the first ideia, but i have just moved to a place that was using broadband via cable from virgin and a landline from them as well, but now seems to be disabled. So bt asks for £125 to reactivate the landline, and ill see with virgin if they can reactivate the landline for cheap or no costs. but with a landline from virgin, it works like a bt landline to use any kind of broadband provider? is it better now to keep a virgin landline or try bt ?

I have virgin.. it's exactly the same and works great.  

Just thought I would let you know that I have Virgin broadband too... best service and most reliable service I have ever had... great price, great customer service!  Have been with Virgin since they started and was with NTL (cable provider) before them for  years.

Oh and I would also add... if you want broadband without a phoneline... Virgin will do that for you aswell.

The phone will work excatly the same, but you cant use other internet providers on a cable line, but virgin broadband is excellent, why dont you just take it from them anyway, BT Charge £125 and Virgin only charge £30, And like the answer above me said they can give you broadband without a phone line, if thats what you need.

EDIT: You cant get a broadband service on virgin phone line, as virgin dont contract other isps to use their lines ..... and with adsl you wont always get the speed thats advertised be there and o2s top speed is 24mb and 20mb, you would have to type your postcode or bt number into the isps sites to check you distance from the exchange and the maximum speed you can recieve

virgin works great for me , phone and broadband .

the landline call charges are a bit of a rip off , but you do get free virgin tv to soften the blow !

PC guard total care is pretty good .

all for around £28 a month + call charges !

hi i had same problem moved to rented house bt wanted £125 even to transfer my old number, as previous tenants had disconnected from bt and changed to virgin cable.   virgin didnt charge anything for connecting it and the monthly charge was less than bt.

It sounds from you story that you don't have a BT line installed in the property & the £125. rip off is the installation fee they charge to put in a BT line from new.

Virgin tried to charge me £25 saying that they had to install cables to my property to reactivate my original Virgin landline I had paid for 6 months earlier & I'd had disconnected (due to c**p service). Soon stopped that, money grabbing BAS****S

So I would assume they might try this with you if it's a Virgin Box on the wall
