Virginia Tech Hokies’ David Wilson sidelined for week 11
Virginia Tech Hokies trainer Mike Goforth told the Associated Press that kick-off return man and running back David Wilson will not be able to start against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday 13 November. According to Goforth, Wilson has contracted
mononucleosis and will not be well enough for week 11 action.
Goforth also mentioned that defensive end Chris Drager will not be able to suit up against the Tar Heels, as the youngster is still battling with the effects of a hit he took in the Hokies game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on 4 November.
Nevertheless, Goforth is fairly certain that both Wilson and Drager will be able to re-enter the line-up before the Hokies home game against the Miami Hurricanes on 20 November.
Virginia Tech will be keen to get their two starters back, as the race for first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal division has begun to heat up in recent weeks.
After losing their first two games to start the season, the Hokies have been perfect, winning their past seven match-ups, going to 7-2, with a 5-0 record against conference opponents. This has made it look as though they had a stranglehold on the division.
However, in recent weeks the division has become far more competitive, and with three conference games remaining, the Hokies' chances of playing for another ACC championship are up in the air.
In week 11, the Hokies face-off against a 6-3 North Carolina team, which has won their last two games, and then they are forced to battle with a 6-3 Miami side, which is coming off a victory over the Maryland Terrapins. Moreover, the Hokies will have to
play their rivals, the Virginia Cavaliers, in the final week of the season in order to clinch the division.
So far this season Wilson has averaged 28.6 yards per kick-off and has managed 462 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Drager has tallied eight solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles.
