  1. They are not like Pacific waves; much smaller.  Maybe a few feet high on most days.

  2. i surf almost everyday..year round and usually winter is the best season for vb hitting up 1st(always crowded) 15th street pendelton/croatan and north end. during summer the waves here are not that great usually ankle to knee high most of the time but if were lucky enough we get some random wind swells other than the random swells virginia is usually always LAKE ATLANTIC. the crowd factor in vb during summer is just insane you have a bunch of litter bugs, kooks, tourist, agro locals and obnoxious groms in the water

I forgot to mention about the lame laws we have lets start off at croatan when summer hits the parking lot is no longer free if youre a local you still get charged a dollar if youre not a va resident i think they charge 5-10 dollars when you enter to the beach acces the spot you see infront is the "surf zone" during summer this place is packed to the right(standing on the beach) is camp pendelton you arent allowed to drift or pass the fence to surf the pendelton side or else its a 2500$ fine to the left of the fence is swimmers only you arent allowed to pass that fence or drift after 9am from then on going north is all swimmers only until you you hit another "designated" surf zone near the rocks or jetty crossing over rudee inlet is the infamous ever so crowded 1st street and a couple of street is also a "designated" surf area the rest of the beach are under strict rules after memorial day the resort streets till 42nd NO surfing between the hours of 10am to 4pm weekdays and 10am to 6pm weekends. North End which is were the board walk ends Surfing permitted all day Monday - Thursday. No surfing between 11am - 4pm Friday Saturday Sunday. there are cops who patrols the beach and if youre a surfer you will get kicked off either by lifeguards or the cops(had this happen to me and a group of friends) there are also fines involved I dont remember to much detail about them but i do know that surfing with out a leash could cost you almost 200 dollars and surfing within a certain amount of yards from the shore you can be fined too

the only day were you can surf anywhere you want during summer at anytime is when the red flags are out other than that its total bull

So if youre only here during the summer pray for a good season some kinda of storm or anything that pumps out waves, I suggest that you dont buy a new board maybe a used one theres a lot of pawn shops around the strip if all other spots are just not working out you can still drive a little further down to sand bridge or if gas doesnt kill your pockets you can make a trip to the outer banks which is more open to any swell direction

hope this answers your question and more...

  3. I'm just answering this to get points David :)

  4. yes i surf everyday, in fact i live on a beach hut right on 'Rudee Inlet' (best surf spot EVERRR dude!!) so i say yes, buy a stick for your girlfriend, they have them in size 18 inchs but i don't know if she's too small for that perhaps...whatever floats your canoe is my motto.

    Shaina is absolutely gorgeous.

  5. rcva and the guy above have it right on, dont go to the jetty, everybody there thinks there is a comp goin on and they are all asses.  croatan is ok sometimes but the loggers will snake every wave that comes in.  for some reason there is very little respect for others in the water in VB.  down towards 44th street it gets alot more chill and you can spread out to get away from the greedy b******s on long boards. its so worth drivng 2 hours to the obx...

  6. VB's usually pretty flat in the summer.  We rely on tropical activity at that time of year (minimal last year).  Maybe the new storm water pipes will help form some good sands bars this year though.

We also have some really stupid surfing laws.  If you don't mind small waves and having to surf in either the morning or evening or don't mind surfing with 500 of your closest friends then by all means get a board, what's one more person in the water?  Nice thing though is that despite all the crowds for the most part there is very little attitude in the water, aside from the jetty.
