QUINTON, Va. - A Virginia man lost about 80 pounds in six months by eating nearly every meal at McDonald's. Not Big Macs, french fries and chocolate shakes. Mostly salads, wraps and apple dippers without the caramel sauce.

Chris Coleson tipped the scales at 278 pounds in December. The 5-foot-8 Coleson now weighs 199 pounds and his waist size has dropped from 50 to 36.

The 42-year-old businessman from Quinton says he chose McDonald's because it's convenient.

His inspiration came from his two children and from the story of a blind war veteran who rode a tandem bicycle cross-country.

Coleson says his goal is to get back to the 185 pounds he weighed when he married Tricia Summer. Their 10th anniversary is Saturday.

  1. It's also convenient because it is portion-controlled. He knows exactly how large everything he buys is going to be, and so long as he sticks to the diet, he doesn't get any high-calorie surprises, unlike with regular restaurants, where anything goes, and eating at home, where it is too tempting to just keep eating as long as there is food.

  2. God! Anyone would lose weight eating just salads two meals a day. Good for him though.

  3. wow...

I think a lot of people are going to eat at mcdonals more often now.

  4. He lost weight because either he couln;t stand the food so didn't eat it or because it made him vomit or expell truckloads of warm and frothy diarrhea!

  5. yeah right

  6. Off course you would lose weight by eating ONLY the healthy food at MacDonald's.

  7. That's remarkable.

  8. He sounds so lovely.

and their salad dressing isn't fat-free.

  15. I'm going to tell you my super secret formula to lose weight.

Eat less + move more = lose weight.

    Amazing, isn't it?

  16. Im guessing he also did more excercise, ate healthier portions too

  17. his body/metabolism worked differently to most people. Entirely possible.

  18. Wow. Good show, although my headline would read:

Woman gains 80 pounds eating at McDonald's.

Me and that guy are the same height and nearly the same weight, luckily for me though my waist is smaller than 36. That just goes to show you that everybody's body type is different. I think maybe it is a publicity stunt for McD's, but not everybody can lose weight the same. Some people (like me) do have to go to the grocery store to find all these foods.
