Question:

Virginia state swat?

I'm interested in joining the Virginia state police and hopefully get into their special tactical unit or SWAT.

I am currently active duty Marine Infantryman and have attained a high level of expertise in CQB(close quarters battle), raids, MOUT and everything else within that category.

How likely am I to be able to get into swat with that background and how much of the training will be redundant?

  1. SWAT positions are highly sought after, and competitive. Your military experience will help, but expect seniority to have a lot to do with the selection process also. They will probably not consider anyone until they become familiar with police procedures by putting their time in patrol.

National security is much different than law enforcement, so don't expect a lot of redundancy. For training that is similar, I think "repetition" would be a better word than "redundant".
