Virgin’s Timo Glock says fitness no issue for Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Virgin Racing Team driver Timo Glock has said that his complete fitness after the recent appendix surgery cannot harm his preparation ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that now he is not worried about his health as he has completely recovered from the small surgical operation.
Glock told the media about his present condition that his lower muscles are just a bit unused while other parts of body are easy to move and working well. He further added he is confident for the Malaysian race and hope so during the race he will not face
any physical problem with himself.
He went on to say, “It's all okay. I just feel I couldn't do a proper workout in the last three weeks. But it's nothing critical. My muscles just realise that they have to wake up again!”
Although he took part in the Australian race for Virgin but he was not classified on the time sheet as he did not complete his race due to many pit stops during his five laps.
Before the Australian Grand Prix, the German said that the team should set their initial targets for the 2011 season. He also mentioned that Virgin did not improve enough after the test sessions, as it should have been.
On the other hand, the team was happy because they consider themselves that they can compete for Q2 places, and start their scoring points in its second season in Formula 1 sport. Despite of teams’ positive hopes for the season Glock admitted that it will
be doubtful until the end of the season whether could they post their supportive scores on the timesheets or not.
The 29-year-old Virgin driver underwent the appendix operation on March 2 in a Swiss hospital. After his ‘routine’ surgery, doctors discharged him from the hospital.
With regards to his winter testing results, his overall performance was not inspiring because his MVR-02 car experienced massive problems over the test runs. In the Valencia testing days, Glock drove along his team-mate Jerome d’Ambrosio and showed the disappointing
performance for the team.
Other than Valencia test, he did not perform well too in Jerez test session, except the day two. In third, Barcelona test, he tried his best to set the pace of his new MVR-02 car but he failed to manage a top position for the team.
Glock missed the final Barcelona test following his appendix surgery.
He added, “They were all the teams where I thought we could catch up a bit more but they made quite a big step and we still have to make a big one.”
The team still expects a lot from Virgin’s driver and is looking forward to a successful Malaysian Grand Prix.
