gaiaonline is a good one, it has a very good layering system for designing the room, and you kids can earn coins from games (fishing, cardgames, wordgames and pinball ect) then bid on items for their house and avatar on auction.

Then you can enter your house into a contest where others can vote, i do this regularly. its very contested but its a great thing to try and win.
