Question:

Virus from an email?

I was checking my email today, and I opened a message from a site called mgconstrucoes.com and opened a file called e-card.exe. As soon as it had finished opening, my Norton Antivirus program and Spy Sweeper program both detected and deleted a Trojan.Blusod virus. Then, a "STOP" message appeared on my screen and the computer restarted on its own. After it restarted, my desktop had changed. When I right-clicked and hit properties, the background and screen saver tabs were missing. I completely scanned my computer, but it's still acting up. Also, my computer gives me the error message and restarts whenever it's signing onto the Internet. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks for your help!

  1. You OS has been irreparably damaged.  You need to reinstall your computer from scratch.  A couple of things about this virus...

    1. The blue screen you are seeing is not real.  While this blue screen is up, the virus is writing reboot system file change commands.  Then the computer is rebooted, at which point, several system files and services are being currupted.

    2. You can back your files up if you follow my directions below before you have to reformat.

         1. Restart your computer and keep pressing the F8 key.  This will come up with a black and white screen that will allow you to pick boot options.  Choose Safe Mode and press enter.

         2. Once you are logged in, press "Windows Key" + "R".  When the dialog appears type in "msconfig" and press enter.  A dialog will appear with like 5 tabs.  Go to the startup tab first and press the disable all button.  Then go to the services tab and disable all again.  The press apply.  When done close the msconfig program.  It will ask you to reboot.

         3. You should be able to log into windows now.  You will not have internet connectivity but your computer should work for you to backup any of you files.

Good luck with backing up your data.

  2. Your computer is infected.  I got that email myself today and clicked on the link, but luckily the server was overloaded and the file didn't open.  I found a posting on it by the University of Kansas IT Security office:

    http://www.security.ku.edu/alerts/alert-...

It describes some of the symptoms you mention (screen saver tab missing, etc.).   The bad news is that, according to this site, your computer should be considered uncleanable!  I'm not a security expert so I can't give you any more advice, but it looks like you've got a real problem.  :-(

  3. I think you got nailed before the antivirus or antospyware programs kicked in.

If you can still get on the network, try downloading SUPERantispyware and trying that.. Ditto Spyware Doctor and Spy Hunter. They are what saved me!

I assume you can't do a system restore to a week before you got infected?  Start -  Help - SystemRestore

    Good Luck!

  4. if you can get your computer to work try to restore it to an earlier time and see if that takes care of your problem, sometimes the virus shuts the restore system down too and if thats the case you will have to reformat the computer.

  5. Why are you Used 2 Anti-Virus Norton Anti-virus  Spy Sweeper?it is wrong choose one,i recommend you Used Avg Anti-Virus Free Edition then scan you Computer will finish you All problem. Download here http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F...

Uninstall 2 Anti-virus  Norton Anti-virus and  Spy Sweeper.

  6. call the norton people

    ask them......
