A virus has infected a computer and replace the windows xp home product id with the phrase VIRUS ALERT!, it also added the same tag to the date time stamp so that the date time stamp shows the date, time and VIRUS ALERT! at the end of every file on the system.it also locked my admin options,i have latest mcafee,but still hav problem.

    One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches.  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!

    EDIT - AlHeat, Spyware is called SPYWARE because its acting like a spy and DOESNT let you know its there!  Its only monitoring what your doing!  This is ACTIVELY doing something to his computer and working more like either a Virus or a Worm!  If you dont know what your talking about, DONT answer!

  8. reboot your pc. then enter safe mode. from there you can access everything in your computer. that's the time to delete that nasty virus. try using NOD32, lavasoft's adaware or kaspersky. they are good antivirus tools
