Hey, I'm signing up for paypal and noticed that they have that padlock that could stand for ssl or some sort of security feature. My computer used to have alot of viruses and/or spyware but my security says that all of that is cleaned up. Still, I am a careful man and know that it is quite possible that my security missed something. My question is this, when submitting personal information on the internet and on secure sights when you have an unsafe computer is it safe? Also, could anyone give me any tips on how to make my computer and network safer to use. Thank you!

  1. If you have any suspicions about a virus or other malware, don't register to any sites like that, cause it is quite easy for the hacker to get the personal information you enter. Only solution i can think off is to keep your system clean of viruses by scanning it 2-3 times weekly.

  2. The PayPal website is 128 bit encrypted and is one of the few websites on the world wide web that has NEVER been hacked.  However, you PayPal account is only as safe as your password, so make sure you don't share it with anyone.  Another common problem is someone using the same password they use on PayPal on a less secure website, like a forum for example.  Forum websites are a lot more liberal with access information because there is no huge security risk if the account is accessed by a third party.  One thing I normally suggest to people who are concerned and would like additional security is the PayPal/eBay Security Key.

The PayPal Security Key is a pocket-sized device that generates a unique access code for your account every 30 seconds. You use that code to access your account and to help prevent people you don't know from doing the same. It's like a combination lock for your account, except the combination always changes.

You can use your PayPal Security Key on eBay and other sites affiliated with the VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Network.

To order a PayPal Security Key, follow these steps:

-Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/ or sign up if you don't already have an account.

    -Click the "Profile" subtab.

In the Account Information column, click the "PayPal Security Key" link.

-Click the "Order Security Key" button.

Confirm your shipping address, and click the "Place Order" button.

-You should receive your PayPal Security Key in the mail within 10 business days. You can check the status of your order by going to your Profile and clicking the "PayPal Security Key" link.

    I hope this helps!
