Virus scan question?

if you pause a virus scan then accidentally cancel it and turn off the computer will it still be able to detect the items that were previously detected?

If it doesn't, it means the program automatically quarantined the files during the scan.  Either way, you should be alright.

Yes 100%.  Does not matter if you stop a scan while running or shut down your pc the virus is still in your system. Just run the scan over again the the virus will be found and either quarantine or cleaned.
