Question:

Virus spyware HELP!!?

My computer had a nasty virus the other day. I thought I got rid of it because Norton doesn't detect it. However, my search engines are useless. ANYTIME I do a general search for something I get the normal results in a list, but if I click on any of them I get redirected to some other website. I can search within a site like, for example, ebay or amazon. If I want to find something there it is ok. But if I want to find something on Yahoo or Google it doesn't work. How do I get rid of this thing outside of reformatting, which I would like to avoid?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Look like you got a virus. Get rid off Norton and get Kaspersky internet security trial for 30 days and do a full scan. Then get adaware and do a full scan. Another thing you could do is to use system restore.

  2. To remove spyware, there are many solutions exist, all of them with their own strengths and weaknesses.

You had better install at least 2 antispyware

Top 5 anti-spywares reviews, comparisons and download links on

You can download and scan your computer for free.

  3. Hi, BumbyPie:

    Do a couple of things:

Install and run BOTH THESE FREE PROGRAMS:

    LavaSoft offers AdAware 2008

    SpyBot Search & Destroy

Do a Reboot of your computer

    Next, if this fails, then

Start>Accessories>System Tools> and then Restore back to the date previous to the problem, then Restart

  4. reset your internet options update your antiviris program

  5. Hey listen, download stopzilla, update it and scan your computer. It will most likely find out any viruses thats left out.Stopzilla even has the homepage protector.

Also get threatfire . It will help to remove most of the viruses which norton cant. Give it a try.

  6. Firstly, antivirus programs will NOT remove malicious codecs, although they may find reference to them and remove it but upon rebooting it's back again or the problems persist.

    Use the following free tools:

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Removes Antivirus:

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...

Download, install, update and select Full Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

    Spybot S&D:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

Download, install, update and Immunize, then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'

Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:

    http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_inst...

Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.

    SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:

    http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan

    VundoFix:

    http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/gl...

Disconnect your computer from the internet

    Run vundo

    Restart your computer

Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.

If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.

If your desktop has changed or icons are missing also use:

    Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Wallpaper_Hija...

Note: You should hit all "Repair" buttons even though it may not say "Found!" This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

    Scan online with Housecall:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com

    or  BitDefender;

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

Finally download trial of Windows Live OneCare and Scan:

    http://onecare.live.com

If the problem persists, turn OFF System Restore and scan with the above programs in Safe Mode, then turn System Restore back ON and create a new restore Point.

  7. This doesn't sound like a virus. Are you guessing you have a virus? Or, are there things, aside from the Search Engine difficulties, that are leading you to believe you have virus?

    I highly recommend:

AVG 8.0 Free (download at download.com) - for viruses

Spybot 1.6 Free (download at download.com) - for spyware

    Ad-Aware 2008 Free (download at download.com) - for spyware

    Install all 3

*With Spybot, during installation, de-select Tea Timer (so it doesn't conflict with AVG, which runs in the background to detect viruses)

Disable Norton if possible (it makes the computer sluggish anyway)

  8. Download the free version of Superantispyware.  I use this program and will resolve your problem as this software finds nasty viruses and spyware and best of all does not conflict with your own antivirus.  http://www.superantispyware.com  Update and run and in depth scan.  Free you must update daily on a manual basis or purchase and get auto. updates.

  9. First, it may be Norton which is blocking your access to search engines. It depends on which Norton product it is. Second, unless it is Norton 360, you can download and use Super AntiSpyware, which does a more thorough job of removing spyware.

Norton comes from the Anti-Virus end of the spectrum, which means that Norton considers its job done when the virus can no longer execute. But this may not remove all traces of the infection.

Super AntiSpyware comes from the anti-spyware end of the spectrum. AS vendors program their products to completely remove all traces of an infection, so that it cannot keep messing up your computer.

Follow up on any anti-virus removal with a system cleanup. I prefer to use CCleaner for that job.

Super Anti-spyware and CCleaner are free.

  10. Go to http://www.spywareremover-download.com

    Download Spywareremover for free.

Not only does spywareRemover get rid of the malicious spyware & adware  that have invaded your system, it also prevents infestations from reoccurring. SPYwareRemover will keep your computer's performance at its best and it will protect your privacy and your identity.
