Virus trouble! Blue screen of death...what to do what to do....?

I must have atleast 10 posts about all my little computer trouble but yet again I have been troubled with viruses. Not to be confused with cookies, spam, popups, ect, ect, but actual viruses. The type that will attempt to Hi-jack your desktop, reproduce, and do all sorts of lovely things. This terrible virus occured when I went to download.com (just trying to tweak and optimize windows) and downloaded an ipod file converter thing. *link* (http://www.download.com/Xilisoft-iPod-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10609599.html) *don't download like I did*

Once I unzipped and installed the program, I was immediatly struck with a warning message from xp 2008 antivirus, or something along those lines. Seeing how I do not own such a program I exited it out, only to see it was beggining a "scan". I could immediatly tell that this was a fraud so I exited everything out. Only later to find it was already installed in my list of programs. I tried to unistall *not using the programs unistaller* but was thwarted once more. All a sudden I get the blue screen, a physical dump of memory and a shut down. I assume I can handle the situation and go into safe mode and run all of my anti-virus scanners. Spybot, smitfraud, MacAfee anit- virus, the works, then restart. Things worked as normal there was no sign of the fraud virus scanner thingy, but yet again I get shut down and thrown down like a drunken teenage prom queen. If none of my anti virus things work then I am fresh out of ideas, any help?

  1. I am not so good with computers, but I would either first use netstat to see if anyone is connected to me after closing my browser, and anything that connects to the internet such as msn, yahoo, and xfire..etc. Next, if there was someone connected to me, I recommend getting rrc (uploaded myself) at http://rapidshare.com/files/140949833/rr... (rrc=rat rescue center. A rat is a Remote Admin Trojan/Tool or w/e you want to call it). Use that to delete the registry of the virus so it can't connect to anyone anymore and so on. Next, I would download wireshark to monitor who was connected to me. Run the scan, again only after closing your browser and anything that connects to internet such as msn, yahoo, and xfire..etc. Try uploading the downloaded virus and scanning it on virustotal.com and seeing if its only a false alarm, as many AV's detect proxies such as ultrasurf and much more as backdoors, when they really are not. As for the blue screen, I recommend to maybe do a backup of the last checkpoint of your pc. Also, if you do not have a firewall, a really good one for malaware/spyware is Outpost Firewall Pro. I hope I helped somewhat :S Sorry to bother you if this was just random mumbling.

  2. XPAntivirus2008 (or XP 2008 Antivirus, XPAntivirus 2008, VistaAntivirus2008, SystemAntivirus2008, Antivirus2008, Antivirus 2008) is a rogue anti-spyware program. XPAntivirus2008 can come to user's computer system after fake video codec’s installation (user actually installs Trojan like Zlob. XPAntivirus2008 will generate fake system error messages to trick user into buying "Full" version of XPAntivirus2008. It is very important to remove all XPAntivirus2008 components from users PC and all the malware, Trojans or spyware that it might have downloaded. Delete XPAntivirus2008 as soon as possible to prevent damage to your computer!

  4. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

  6. This happened to my sister also. When you leave your computer alone it seems like it restarts and goes to the blue screen right? And then it keeps restarting? When it does that push "Ctr+Alt" and it should bring you back to your screen.  I think the best thing to do is to back up all the files that you want and wipe it clean.  I'm not sure how to wipe it clean because my cousin made a CD for my sister because her laptop keeps crashing. But for now, just make sure you run your virus scans. The "xp 2008 antivirus" virus will still be on your computer. You'll notice your desktop background changed and your screensaver is when it looks like your computer continually restarts. I realized that when your computer restarts it isn't really restarting because when you push ctrl+alt, the programs you were using still appear.

I don't know if I confused you more... but hopefully this helped. Good luck!

  7. Yes, it appears that you have a serious problem called Smitfraud/Zlob in your computer. I think you know that XP 2008 AntiVirus is a fraud, but for any other visitors out there, IT IS A SCAM! It will not only not solve the problem, but introduce more malware to your computer.

Since SmitfraudFix, the de facto fix for your problem, does not appear to work, I think you may have to consult:

    http://parasitedb.com/removal.html

They are cheap and reliable. You may request a refund if they have failed to solve your problem. They are definitely worth a try.

Let me know how it goes.
