  1. Sounds like she cloned your card, watch out!!!

  2. Contact your bank immediately and check the protocol of card use in the USA and all transactions in the time period since this happened.

  3. It is not right. You should have been given a receipt stating the amount and the method of payment. Any amount could have been/can now be filled in by Starbucks. Cancel your card and get a new one.

There is no limit below which a receipt need not be issued. (There may be a limit below which you can't use your debit card, that varies from trader to trader).  It is a UK card and only UK legislation applies to it, unless specifically stated otherwise in the terms & conditions. It happened to me many times while in the US. Nobody can refuse you a receipt with the basic details. I insisted on it and always got one.

ADD: If you have the unsigned copy of the receipt there shouldn't be a problem, though.

  4. If the purchase is below $25, you don't have to sign.  It's up to the merchant's discretion.

You can confirm this with your card issuer.

This information is in response to When's statement, who is incorrect.  I cut and pasted this from the FAQs on the Visa International website:

Why do some merchants not require a signature or PIN for my Visa check card transactions?

Many merchants do not require a PIN or signature for Visa check card transactions under $25. This helps speed up checkout. Similarly when you shop online or by phone and can’t sign for your purchase, you still receive all the benefits your check card provides when you select Visa as your payment option.

The merchant always should give you a receipt, regardless of whether you entered a PIN, signed or simply had your card swiped.

Some of you simply do not know what you're talking about.  If you aren't professionals with the appropriate experience, you should do a little research before you answer.
