  1. Well, if you have an indefinite US visa in your old passport, it's no longer valid. The US decided over 10 years ago to limit visas to a maximum validity of 10 years. You can always verify this with the US embassy, but that's what they'll tell you. So, bottom line,if this is a US visa you're talking about, you need to get a new one.

  2. You should have 2 passports with you, new one for your valid form of ID and the old one for your visa.

  3. You can present your old passport with the indefinite VISA on it upon return.  The border patrol officer may cancel it though on arrival if he or she believes the visa being indefinite is no longer relevant.

  4. Indefinite validity visas (Burroughs Visas) are tourist/business visas manually stamped into a traveler’s passport which were valid for ten years. Effective April 1, 2004, all indefinite validity Burroughs visas became void.

Therefore, if you have an indefinite validity visa you must apply for a new visa for travel to the U.S.
