Question:

Visa for internships in Europe?

Does anyone know the visa requirements or have realiable resources for US and Canadian citizens when entering Germany, France, GB or the Netherlands for:

Option 1: a non-paid internship less than 3 months

Option 2: a non-paid internship longer than 3 months

Is it allowed to stay in those countries without any visa/permit, when the internship lasts less than 3 months?

Is it necessary to apply for a "Working Holiday Visa"?

Is it necessary to apply for a Work Permit/Residence Permit?

What if the internship is paid?

Any help is highly appreciated!

  1. Unpaid internships - no holiday visa's are allowed, it will clearly state that you are not allowed to work.  You must get the visa for an internship, after you have been granted the internship.  The granting company should provide you with documents showing the intent to hire you, and the time period.  Take that to the German, French, GB, or Netherlands embassy in your country and apply directly. as long as the paperwork is in order, you should have it within 2-4 weeks.  The same goes for paid internships.  You cant expect to just go there and find an internship.
