Hello - I'll be spending one month in Australia and one month in New Zealand. I wanted to know if I need to apply for a visa through the ETA or if I'm in the clear...can someone please advise me or direct me to where I can find the answer to this? It isn't clear on the ETA website.

  1. All visitors to Australia (except New Zealand citizens), regardless of the length of their stay, MUST have a visa. If you land in Australia without a visa, you will not be able to enter the country. It is impossible to obtain a visa after arrival. Mel's answer is incorrect.

If you are from an ETA listed country (the UK, USA and many other countries), you should apply for an ETA from the following site:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/...

You can visit New Zealand for up to 3 months without a visa if you are a British citizen or PR or a passport holder from a number of other countries. US citizens can visit for up to 6 months without a visa.

    See: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/s...

  2. That depends were you're from, I'm suspecting you're from either the UK or US, in which case in Australia you can visit for a tourist based stay of up to 90days without a visa. I'm not sure of NZ but would suspect its the same.

    http://www.immi.gov.au - Australia

    http://www.immigration.govt.nz  - New Zealand

If you're not from the US or UK then you will need to apply for two separate visa's, one for AU and one for NZ as we are two completely different countries.

  3. everyone needs a tourist visa to visit Australia, depends where you are from as to if you qualify for an ETA visa or if have to apply through an Australian visa office/embassy  in your country

i dont know about new zealand they have their own laws

  4. You don't mention where you are travelling FROM.

As Australia and New Zealand are two totally different countries, you may need to apply for Visas for both (ie two Visas).

    Ours is www.immi.gov.au - while the Kiwi's is www.immigration.govt.nz

Both countries have similar requirements; but granting of Visas is very dependent on which country you are travelling from.
