I have an F1 student visa... but I just graduated this semester, so I'll be going back to my country. I'm planning to come back in few months for a friend's wedding. Do anyone know how fast I can change a student visa to a tourist visa??? I'm from brasil.

THANKS

  1. well, you will need to apply for a tourist visa back home in Brazil. you could apply for a change of status from student to tourist through USCIS, however, it's not clear exactly when you finished your studies. If you are considered out of status now, and it certainly sounds like you are, you won't be able to change status through USCIS, you'll have to go home. It's hard to say whether or not you'll be approved for a tourist visa, but if you did everything you were supposed to as a student, you should have a good chance.

  2. If you graduated in May or June, you have already overstayed your student visa.  You had to leave within 30 days of completing course requirements.  Leave immediately and return home.  Overstaying your student visa could get your tourist visa denied.

If you have round-trip plane ticket, hotel reservations, wedding invitation, and sufficient funds for your trip, you should have no problem getting a tourist visa for long enough to attend the wedding.

  3. Apply here .. Do not apply back in Brazil the consulate there will take there sweet time and knowing that you already came to the states and want to go back.. they will give you a hard time doing so. I really dont think it would be easy unless you applied here!!

    Best advise and

    Happy Wedding !
