Question:

Visa renewal?

I am currently in US on F1 visa for my PhD studies. I want to back home (Pakistan) in summer but my visa has expired so I have to apply for a visa renewal.

Actually I received my visa on August 2005 after a painful wait of almost one year (applied in May 2004) due to security clearances and the reason told to me was that my name is very common . Now i want to ask that if I apply for visa renewal then do i have to undergo these security clearances again and will it again take this much time ( 1 year on first time) or will this time the process will be faster. I am confused whether this name check will take place again and can again delay the visa process.

  1. If you are here and your visa has expired then you have become an "illegal immigrant".

What are you doing here still?

If you had reapplied, it would have been faster as you have already given your biometrics. I hope you have taken an extension.

  2. you will have to re apply allover again  once they see you   sorry  DOC but you have no visa  you're an illegal  wouldn't  surprise me if on exiting the US  the CBP  will bar you from ever reentering my country

  3. Your F1 visa may be expired, but if you are still in school and complying with the original visa requirements, then you are still in status.  You will not need a new visa unless you plan to leave the US and return.  In that case, yes, you can expect the same types of delays.  It might be in your best interest to remain in the US until you have finished your education.  Otherwise, you run the risk of missing classes and being forced out of status.
