  1. Maria , The passport you have that gained you access to the US will be fine for your entry into Mexico. You will get paperwork ( a short Form ) on the plane for a 6 month tourist visa. When you de board you will go Thur immigration and they will stamp your passport and give you your stamped tourist visa. Don't lose it as they will ask for it on your departure. You are fine . Enjoy your trip.

  2. Sorry Micheal, you are incorrect. It would be ok if Maria had a green card, but as a student, she has a student visa. With anything less than Permanent Residence, visitors need a visa.

Maria, you need to pick up a Mexican visa at the Mexican consulate nearest to where you are living. Just open the phone book and you can find one. They usually have one in the big cities.

Also important to keep in mind is that your visa needs to allow you to re-enter the US.

I remember meeting a Russian man in Juarez who was visiting the US and made a side trip to Mexico. Since the border checkpoints for visas are 30km south of the border, he didn't show anything upon entering Mexico. He spent the day enjoying the sites of Juarez and went to cross back into the US. Since his visa was a single entry, he was denied entry to the US. Upon crossing back in Juarez, he realized that he needed a Mexican visa for Mexico. I met him at the Juarez airport trying to find some way to fly back to Russia or onto another country without a visa.
