I am travelling to Italy as an au pair. The job is for one year but i don't know exactly what date i will be returning. Should i buy a return ticket or a one-way? My only concern for one-way is with customs not accepting my plan. And what Visa is appropriate?

  1. If you're from US, you can stay in Italy for 90 days without any visa...you just need your passport.

If you're going to stay more than 90 days and/or you got a job, you have to do some procedures that you can read here http://www.usembassy.it/acs/general-visi...

  2. As long as you have a visa and get a work permit/sergerners permit they will not care about your flight. If you dont have a visa you can only stay in the country for 90 days.Italy is one of the most relaxes places to deal with customs. One way is always more pricie. I have found over the years of flying back and fourth since I live here that British airways is the cheapest place to get tickets. Just FYI.

  3. If you are traveling from outside of the European Union then you are allowed in to Italy for 3 months on a tourist visa. If you are coming for work then your sponsor will have to declare so and help you (with a letter or two) get your 1 year work visa.

Make sure you take care of this before going to Italy so to avoid having to go back to your country to apply and or be present for documents. Contact your local Italian consulate for more information.
