Visas to the us with convictions?

32 years ago my dad was bit of a rough one and got into a few fights which got him convicted for assault, hes 50 now and hasnt been in trouble since. problem is we are all going to florida nxt year and we are wonderng what are the chances of him getting a visa. I really need peoples advice if they have been on this situation or something similar before

  1. He first needs to get some legal advice to find out if the incidents counted as an "arrest" as defined by the Visa Waiver Program. If not he can truthfully state he was never arrested and he won't need a visa.

    If the incidents do count as arrests he should get some advice before filing the application for a visa.  However, it seems unlikely those type incidents over 30 years ago would be a problem.

  2. i av been to florida loads and trust me they look stuff like this up and it stays on record, write to us embassy in london for advice  

  3. Think the only people who can answer this properly are the staff at the American Embassy.

    He needs to apply for a visa and attend an interview, I believe it is decided on a case by case basis, so even 2 people in a similar situation may have different decisions made.
