Visceral Games hiring for Dead Space 3, want to follow Resident Evil’s example – Gaming News
The studio behind the terrifyingly spectacular Dead Space series, Visceral Games is looking to add another title to the franchise as it put up Job Listings for a host of positions.
The advertisement for the job read, "This is a major opportunity to greatly contribute to an exciting unique franchise."
According to the listing, Visceral Games is looking for a Senior VFX artist, an Audio Director and a Senior Development Director who would be working on the Dead Space franchise. Whether this means for another game, or a number of new games in the series
is still unclear.
Dead Space has grown into one of Electronic Arts’ most popular franchises and the Publishing giant seems certain that the Dead Space series has plenty more to offer fans of the survival horror genre and the gaming world in general.
According to Frank Gibeau, President of EA Games, there are still places the Dead Space franchise can take gamers in terms of reaching out to larger audience, or as he put it, "I think we still have some areas to grow with Dead Space in terms of trying to
reach a broader audience without losing the quality and that survival-horror mechanic."
The fact that EA seem to have the point of remaining true to the survival horror mechanic, which the game has as its major pillar, will come as a relief for fans of the series. However, in what gamers may see as a bad omen, the EA President also explained
he wanted to model the franchise according to Capcom’s Resident Evil series.
"The Resident Evil series was awesome, the early versions were phenomenal. (Capcom) did a good job of growing the franchise to a very large market. That's how we're going to think about it as we think about Dead Space 3 and what we do next with the IP,"
revealed Gibeau.
What is worrying about the statement is that the Resident Evil series opted for a more action oriented approach, abandoning to some extent, the survival horror mechanic which made the earlier games the success they were.
In fact, Capcom made the change in order to reach out to a broader audience themselves and with the latest features in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the franchise is at a completely different stage from where it began.
At the same time, the more avid gamer will have noted that Gibeau emphasized on the earlier versions, which stayed within the classic Resident Evil mechanics, so maybe EA and Visceral Games will not make the same mistakes as Capcom.
All one can do at this point is speculate, but one thing is for sure, Dead Space looks set to stay around for some time, meaning gamers can expect plenty of thrills, scare and limb dismembering in the future.
