I purchased my eye glasses at walmart with my Spectera insurance. I had to pay $ 15 co-pay for lenses and $15 for frames. So I owed $30 plus tax. BUT then WalMart charged me and extra $30 sales tax as if I were paying the whole $350 for the glasses. Is this legal?

  1. Read your insurance policy. Wal-Mart is required by law to collect sales tax on items they sell. If the item is subject to sales tax in your state then they are required to collect the tax. Do not blame Wal-Mart...blame your government.

  2. If you are accurate in what you are saying, of course it's legal...They wouldn't be doing it if it were not legal...

Think about it, if it's illegal, a regular person like yourself can bust them...

  3. Yes, because they are required to collect sales tax on the total amount.  Just because the insurance company pays $200, does not exempt that $200 from sales tax!

But what a ripoff - most states don't charge sales tax on glasses.
