Vision Issues!!?

Ok, I was born with glaucoma and nystagmus, and have been under the care of an opthalmologist since I was 4. I'm now 24 and have lost a good bit of vision in my left eye since surgery in Oct. 07, due to the glaucoma. My eyes both started getting very irritated about a month ago, (tired feeling, dry etc). Went to my Opth. who said it was allergies and sent me on my way, my vision in my right eye went from 20/30 corrected to 20/60 in under 2 weeks. Went back and he did a thorough eye exam (dilation etc.) and said he couldn't find anything anatomically wrong with my eyes, the pressure was great, retinas looked great, optic nerves were normal. He increased my glasses Rx to -4.50 in the right eye and -5 in the left and had my right eye seeing back at 20/30.

I am worried though that I am slowly going blind, although he and another Opth. I saw for a 2nd opinion say that isn't the case. Am I going blind? Nothing looks the same anymore.

  1. Has either of them done a topography.  This is a map of the surface of the cornea which could pick up any distortion.  It may be a little difficult to achieve with your nystagmus, but it can be done.  Have they tried a pinhole test to see if the vision could potentially be made better.  (You look through a tiny hole to see the chart)  Other than that, you may have a subtle retina problem.  In any case, an anterior segment specialist and/or retina specialist visit may be in order.  You should at least have an explanation for the decrease in vision, even if it can't be helped......good luck.

  2. you should go to the eye doc
