Question:

Vision during pregnancy?

During my pregnancy I stopped wearing my contact lenses as they irritated my eyes. I was told that due to the extra fluid I was carrying, due to pregnancy, that the excess pressure had slightly changed the shape of my eye. I also noticed in my pregnancy that my vision had become blurry. I also researched that pregnancy can cause this also for the same reasons as above. So I gave birth 2 weeks ago and got my eyes tested last Thursday. My optician says that my eyes have got better!!! I have gone from -5.5 in my right eye to -5.0 and -5.0 in my left eye to -4.0. But now im sorrying - did I get my eyes tested too soon after my daughter was born? Seeing as it was only 8 days? Or do you think my new prescription is an accurate reflection on my vision?

  1. I would have said that was too soon...

Fluid levels, protein levels, all sorts of hormones...

A fair number of women have trouble wearing contact lenses during pregnnacy, (most often during the middle three moths and with RGP lenses, but that's nothing like a firm rule.)

The Rx accurately reflects your vision at the date of the test, almost certainly, but its permanence has got to be in doubt.

If you are coping, I'd say don't get it made, but check again in 2-3 months.  If you have to get it made, resign yourself to the fact that it might need re-setting in 3-4 months.
