Vision in Gold and Great Hot to seek redemption in the Santa Maria Stakes at Santa Anita
The 5-year-old mare, Vision in Gold, after an unimpressive debut race of the new campaign in the Paseana Handicap over the Santa Anita’s fast dirt track where she finished sixth to winner Ellafitz at about 1 1/16 miles on 15 January, 2012, Ronald Ellis trained
mare will try to do a double in the Grade 2 Santa Maria.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, out of mare Corporate Vision by Corporate Report, Vision in Gold downed the 1 1/16 mile long race on dirt at Santa Anita Park last year, when she defeated the likes of Zardana and St Trinians, who finished second
and third, respectively, while Vision in Gold coupled with Joel Rosario topped the distance in 1 minute and 41.55 seconds on 12 February, 2011.
The Santa Maria Stakes is set to get underway on 18 February, 2012, and the race reeled in a strong lineup. Vision in Gold will have to go against first, third and 4th positioned fillies and mares of the Paseana Handicap.
The Tiznow mare, Ellafitz, is exiting a victory in the Paseana Handicap and prior to that last year she downed the Grade 2 Bayakoa Handicap over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track under M Garcia on 4 December, 2011, at about 1 1/16 miles with the winning
time of 1 minute and 42.69 seconds.
The Kentucky bred out of mare Skat Girl by Dixieland Band, Ellafitz will be running for her hat-trick in the Grade 2 Santa Maria.
The third placed, Spirit Seeker, in the Paseana Handicap will also go for the Santa Maria along with the 4th place finisher Kayce Ace.
The Brazilian bred, Great Hot, who is exiting a second place finish in the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes in her 2012 debut to winner, Include Me Out, has been entered in the Santa Maria.
A C Avila trained 4-year-old Orientate filly, out of mare That’s Hot by Seeking the Gold, was coming into the La Canada Stakes off a strong third place finish in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita over a distance of seven furlongs, and she will be
the one to look out for in the Santa Maria Stakes.
