  1. It is very much a tourist trap. Visit if you must - but only for a day. It reminds me of Wildwood (NJ) on the Rhine. Tee-shirt shops, cheap souvenirs, and rotten restaurants - I know I was there.

  2. If you're an American who loves to go to Disney....then Rüdesheim is a must.

  3. I agree with all who say that Rüdesheim is a tourist trap. It sure is. When you go to the Eifel montains, make sure that you see the Nürburgring and take a "ring taxi". That's also a tourist trap, but one that's worth its price, I swear! Also, while you're in the Eifel, take a swim in one of their lakes. You won't regret it.

  4. Rüdesheim is very much a tourist trap, and you can see better parts of the Rhine/Rhein without all the kitsch: I would suggest visiting the following cities along the Rhein/Rhine:

-Koblenz (where the Rhein and Mosel meet). This is a medium sized town with lots to do and some great viewpoints.

-St. Goarhausen (the Loreley is there which has a famous legend of a mermaid, and beautiful outlook points).

also, if you're driving in the area, Bernkastel on the Mosel has a number of great outlook points, and some vineyards which are quite lovely.

  5. Yes, definitely, I visit Ruedesheim every time I visit Germany as I am from across the bridge, it is a tourist town and should be visited in the summer when shops and other attractions are open.
