  1. Yellowstone is in the US

The only National parks in Alberta are

    Elk Island National Park http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/elkisland/i...

    Waterton Lakes National Park http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/waterton/in...

    Banff National Park http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/banff/index...

    Jasper National Park http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/jasper/inde...

and  Wood Buffallo National Park http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/nt/woodbuffalo...

There are lots of provincial parks in Alberta, here's a page that lists the ones near Edmonton http://www1.travelalberta.com/en-edmonto...

USA Today called Jasper 'Canada's Yellowstone' http://www.usatoday.com/travel/gallery/2...

Hopefully you find what you're looking for on one of these pages!

  2. Just to let you know, it's about a 2 day trip (well,14 hour drive from Edmonton).  Yellowstone National park is in Wyoming...

Anyway, there are lots of things to see there.  When you get there, you'll have to pay an entrance fee but then you get a bunch of brochures that you can take a look at.  There are lots of geysers, wildlife and natural formations that are very interesting.  Yellowstone is actually located on an old volcano (actually I think there are three in the area)... Anyway, there is still volcanic activity in the area, hence the geysers.  There are lots of hikes to do in the area as well.  There are also tourist stops (that will gouge your wallet if you're not careful LOL)

Anyway, here is the link to the park website...

    http://www.nps.gov/yell/

If you scroll down, you'll see the 'things to do' link... click the 'more' section and you'll see a bunch of things listed off - all of which you can check out on line.  I suggest doing the canoe trip or if they offer rafting services - that was fun!

You'll probably see bison in the area, as well as moose and mountain sheep... Remember to stay in your car.  I remember seeing tourists getting out of their cars (with young babies or children in tow) going right up to the bison, and moose (a bull moose at that).. That was wayyyy too dangerous!  I'm sure you wouldn't but you'll probably see some tourists doing something crazy like that!

Cheers and have a great trip!

I forgot to add that you'll have to bring your passport or at least a birth certificate to get into the US now.

ADDED:  There is no Canadian part to the Yellowstone National Park - It's in Wyoming, bordering Montana and Idaho.  Do you mean Waterton Lakes National park (which is on the Canadian side, and Glacier National park is on the American side)?
