  1. Go to MDtravelhealth ......do  t ........ c......om.

    They have some info.

I would guess most travelers going to a tourist area do not get shots, but do some more research and ask a doctor who know about travel issues.

  2. I go to DR every winter and never get any shots. I just don't drink any water that isn't bottled and sealed.

  3. Hi, me again,

No you don't need any shots before coming to Playa Dorada ( Puerto Plata) just don't drink water from the tab.

And the first days of you stay don't drink to cold (ice cubes) your body is not used to this. Happy that you will be there!

  4. hallo,

here are the customs requirements for you

Typhoid may be a risk in rural areas. Vaccination against typhoid and polio is recommended.

Malaria risk, exclusively in the malignant falciparum form, exists throughout the year in rural areas of the western provinces of Castauelas, Hondo Valle and Pepillo Salcedo. Chloroquine is the recommended prophylaxis.

Food drink: All water should be regarded as being potentially contaminated and sterilization should be considered essential. Water used for drinking, brushing teeth or making ice should have first been boiled or otherwise sterilized. Milk is pasteurised. Powdered or tinned milk is available. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot. Pork, salad and mayonnaise may carry increased risk. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled.

Other risks: Bilharzia (schistosomiasis) is endemic. Avoid swimming and paddling in fresh water; swimming pools which are well chlorinated and maintained are safe. Diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis has been reported. Hepatitis A and B may occur. Outbreaks of dengue fever occur in the area.

Rabies may be present. For those at high risk, vaccination before arrival should be considered. If you are bitten, seek medical advice without delay. For more information, consult the Health appendix.

Health care: Health insurance (to include emergency repatriation) is strongly recommended. Medical care is limited and variable in quality. An emergency service is available in Santo Domingo.

  5. No.  Hepatitis Shots wont be necessary. That is if and only if you are doing business travel or common tourist travel.  If you plan on extending your stay, working outdoors,  travelling through the countryside, or meeting someone for a romantic encounter then you should consult your doctor for recommendations on shots.
