Heya,

I am planning on visiting Edinburgh and I am interested in what attractions you advice me to see. I am already booked into the Scottish Parliment and Concorde, and would like to a little shopping. So any ideas welcome?

Thanks

  1. Edinburgh Castle. & little else.

If you are young stick to London.

If you are not so young, try the Scotish Highlands.

  2. The castle is a must.  The views are breathtaking.  It's a lot bigger that you would realise (we were tired after!) with lots of rooms & exhibits which are really interesting.

We are not really big museum people having two young kids but if you like this then there are many to see: Royal Museum , Museum of Scotland, National Gallery, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Museum of Pathology and Anatomy (and maybe more that I don't know of)

Take some time for the Grassmarket, off the actual market area are streets wit lots of (very differing) shops, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants etc and situated in beautifully old architecture.

If you want more shopping then close to the Grassmarket is the Cowgate.  Then the New Town area has a lot of shops & there us also the Ocean Terminal shopping centre by the waterfront.

There is also Edinburgh Zoo which is worth a visit Edinburgh about 10-15 mins from the centre.  It has the world's largest penguin exhibit & a penguin parade in the afternoons!

It also has Royal Botanic Gardens which many people say is as good as the Eden project (Cornwall) although I didn't go and see this

Military Tattoo & Edinburgh festival is held somewhere in August if my memory serves me well (not sure when you are planning on going)

There is so much more.  I guess you have checked out the tourist info site.  If not then here it is http://www.edinburgh.org.  This gives you so much more info

It is a great place to visit and has something for all ages (as you will see by the amount of people visiting) and proof that unlike some people say, London is not the be-all and end-all of Britain!
