  1. the only advice i can give is " enjoy "

if you like natural beauty  and historical sites , the problems going to be what " not " to see as theres so much

theres plenty of tourist information stuff , at the airport , or boat terminal

never had a bad meal there either , even in the small villages the food was good

just kick back and take it easy , you will love it

source - been there 3 times , and will go back as its so beautiful

    all the best

    Ian

  2. All of Ireland is beautiful so enjoy every minute you have there

  3. When in Ireland do what the intelligent people do.

Let the Irish people take you by the hand and show you just how life should be lived and enjoyed.

I have always found the Irish to have a wonderful sense of hospitality and just being amongst them is relaxing in it's self.

Do not plan anything and take each day of your holiday as it comes and the views, the people, the food, the drink, the air you breathe and the time you have will be the best you could ever hope to experience.

There is one big downside to the whole holiday.

When you leave you will leave with a heavy heart.

However, this sadness will soon disappear when you start planning your next visit.

  4. Hello,

You didn't say where you are coming from, or when you intend to be here in Ireland....The Irish climate is damp and rains a lot! hence our Green fields.

You will love Ireland I promise.

    You musttttttt see

Bun ratty Castle its in Limerick. and has a fine restaurant too.

Also go and kiss the Blarney Stone! its in country Cork.

    Dublin too of cause.

Go to the GPO (general post office)  in Dublin, if you stand and look you will see the bullet holes from the 'Easter Rising' in 1916.

    Ireland is full of history.

Ireland is only 304 miles wide and 372 miles long (honest!!) so you really can see a good part of it.

If you decide to get a train to The North Of Ireland then the Mountains of Mourne are an absolute must.

    go to www.discoverireland.com

    Enjoy your stay

Cead Mile Failte   =   one hundred thousand welcomes

Have a wonderful time, and congratulations on your anniversary   x

  5. I hope you have a lovely stay!

First of all- Forget about the train. Hire a car. Our train service is very limited here.

Historical sites in that area includes Bunratty Castle in Clare, King Johns Castle in Limerick city.

If its natural beauty you want to see, I suggest that you first start making your way to the Cliffs of Moher in West Clare. Start your tour there, the cliffs are one of Irelands most well-known sites. They are breathtaking.

Then travel down the Clare coast towards the Tarbert Ferry crossing. This will take you to Kerry.

Then work down the Kerry Coast, visiting towns and sea villiges such as Ballyheigue, Tralee.

Head for Dingle- take the Connors Pass Route which is just so amazing. In Dingle there are traditional irish pubs and locals there still speak the irish language.

Then go for a drive around the Ring of Kerry...this is a road that goes from Killarney village in a ring back to Killarney through the most beautiful countryside of Ireland.

In Killarney make sure to visit Muckross House...it is set at the entrance to the National Park.

Do not worry about acommadation: there are so many BnBs, hotels.

Plus there are so many activities to do during that route i.e trekking, pony rides etc etc.

If you are staying in the city may i suggest the TexasSteak House resturant...it is my favourite, though not traditional irish food (if you want that, the best thing to do is go into a local pub at lunchtime and get yourself the works!)

Oh and if you get lost along the way....people are more then willing to help you out!

  6. I have absolutely no desire to cast aspersions, but I was listening to a radio phone-in last evening (on LBC97.3 - a London station) and one of the callers said that he'd just been to Limmerick and it's full of "travellers" who go round all the pubs asking for money, and if it's refused, one of the ever increasing "family" steps in and "point out the error of their way" - in other words, demanding money with menaces. Apparently you can't move for them in Limmerick and they completely spoiled his holiday ! ! !

  7. you have to do bunratty castle and folk village. it's brilliant. make sure you book a banquet for the evening you will be there.

  8. You've got a hired car, right? Get yourself a good and detailed map and fill up with petrol, and head out towards Ennis and the Burren. It's just gorgeous out there - only don't pick any flowers. A great place to stop for grub is the Roadside Tavern in the small town of Lisdoonvarna, they also have great trad music sessions there - but it's a long drive back to where you're staying and the roads are very dark at night. You have to hire a car, otherwise you're relying on the bus, no trains run past Ennis. But the joys of having a car in Ireland include getting lost, you usually meet lots of interesting people.

On the plus side, you can also take your car down to Loop Head (also in Clare) and drive along the north side of the estuary as far as Kilrush and to the ferryport of Killimer, where you can get the ferry across the river to the Limerick side, and that's also a lovely drive up to Limerick. A couple of nice places to stop there are: Curraghchase wildlife park and the remains of the Big House there, you can almost see how the people lived a hundred years ago; and just before the village of Clarina is a turnoff to one of the most impressive fortresses off the tourist track, Carrigogunnel castle, which you will probably be able to see at your accommodation across the river.

Another nice place you might like is Lough Gur, which has megalithic remains, and the nearby Grange Stone Circle. Not far from Limerick city. Limerick city itself has a thriving arts scene, if you google Limerick city+arts you'll probably get a good look at everything that's happening.

Good restaurant in Limerick: the Sage Cafe on Catherine Street. Very very nice food, but only open during the day. There's also the Cafe on Bedford Row, and many other sandwich eatery-type places around. For evening meals I'd recommend checking out pubs before restaurants as these can be appreciably cheaper for the same quality of food.

  9. follow the Shannon river!

it will go from Limerick to Athlone to Cavan.

    and Athlone rocks socks!!!

ders many restaurants like Divertimento, Il Colloseo, Kin Khao.....

and dere only da 1s near da marina.

we have 1 large shopping centre and 1 small one and the largest one outside of dublin is open o the 14th of October!

theres so much to do here you have to see for yourself! its also on the Shannon so you could go back to Limerick for your flight by boat and see Clonmacnoise, an ancient monastic sight. and if ye like scenery, the lake in Coosan is beautiful!

    come to athlone......
