Visiting Italy?

I plan to visit Italy sometime within the next couple years and I'm currently learning the language using lessons I found by Michel Thomas, so far it seems to be very effective. I'm just wondering what are some great cities to visit in Italy?

I know Rome and Milan are well known places to visit, but I wanna hear about other places as well from people who have been to some of the lesser known areas and had a great time. Maybe some traveling tips too? =P

  1. If you want to be near the sea I suggest you the whole Liguria region, on the west coast....not easy sand beaches, but sea is absolutely wonderful, just like its towns and villages on the seaside.

Rimini, in Emilia- Romagna (on the east coast) if you wanna an "easier" sea and a lot of discoes...Mirabilandia, one of the best italian amusement park, is near there, like Ravenna, a little, nice city where Dante is buried.

Venice if you want see an incredible city.

Bologna for its ancient buildings (like Le Due Torri, "the 2 towers") and churches and for its extraordinaire food.

Florence is probably the best art city after Rome.

    Rome if you want...Rome.

Naples is wonderful, despite the trash troubles you 'll have heard about....the best pizza of italy, a very nice sea, modern and ancient buildings.

The Northern regions, Val d'Aosta and Trentino Alto Adige are perfect for skiing and mountain climbing and trekking.

    And many, many more...............

PS Come va il tuo italiano?

  2. The Amalfi Coast area is absolutely beautiful! I went on a marching band trip to Italy a couple of years ago and we performed in Rome, Sorrento, and Amalfi. Sorrento was my favorite town that we visited. It's right on the coast so the views are spectacular. That area is also well known for their citrus products, especially lemons and limoncello. There are lemon trees in the middle of some sidewalks and the town kind of has a nice lemony smell.

The shopping is great there too. We found a nice back street where they had about the same selection as the main street did, but the prices were much better! And of course, there is some great food too! The people were very friendly also. Anyway, that area is highly reccomended!
