Question:

Visiting London in December

We live in Canada. This year during the holidays instead of heading south, we would like to take a trip to London, England. I know that London winter is cold and wet, but living in Canada, we have seen the worst of winter. So coming from Canada, is the weather in London manageable? That is, can we be outside, and not be cooped up in some hotel room? Finally, what type of clothing is recommended?

  1. Changeable is the best word.  Sometimes it's clear and frosty, sometimes it rains and very occasionally it snows.  London in December is magical - Covent Garden is my favourite spot!  In terms of clothing, you'll want warm clothes, hats, scarves, gloves plus a raincoat - I would think if you can cope with a Canadian winter then London will be easy to deal with!  You can certainly be out and about, even if it's raining there is plenty to see and do - all the museums are free, and they're fantastic - I've spent many a rainy day there.

  2. The weather in England is just as you have proberly heard CHANGABLE!! Our winters however are not as cold as they used to be they have definately become milder in my lifetime (42)! You can be outside but always be prepared for rain!!! Wear a warm coat scarf and gloves!! if your lucky we may get snow ( we English always hope for snow at christmas but are more likely to get it in March these days!! ) I hope you enjoy your visit whatever the weather brings!
