If I wanted to visit Machu Picchu in Peru, what city would I have to fly into? If I went there, would I have to rent a car, or can you take public transport to get there?

  1. Dear friend in order to take the tour to machupicchu, what you have to do is to take a flight to Lima first and then to Cusco (it takes 1 hour from Lima). Once in Cusco you must take the train to Aguas calientes (4 hours) and from there a bus take you in 25 minutes to the secret city of Machupicchu . I recommend that you take a bus to Ollantaytambo (another town in between because you save 1 hour) and then take the train to Aguas calientes. Unfortunately there is no other way much easier to get machupicchu, except walking or taking other remote routes.

  2. You would have to fly into Lima Peru then go to Cuzco which is the city where mach pichu is in!!!

    PERU ROCK!!!!

    -LOL

    IT does!!!

  3. All international flights fly into Lima, the Capital of Peru. From there you should fly to Cuzco (or take a bus. The bus take a really long time though). From Cuzco, there are only 2 ways to get to Machu Picchu: (1) Walking the Inca trail, or (2) take the train. There are no roads to Machu Picchu, so no way of getting there by bus or car.

Be careful if you take the train at Ollantaytambo (were you can get by road and were the train stops). Few people get off at Ollantaytambo and most seats are filled in Cuzco all the way to Machu Picchu, so you might end up not being able to get on the train at Ollantaytambo.

  4. is macchu picchu a pokemon or a yu gi oh

  5. my answer has a third option to get from cuzco to machu pichu (the town is aguas calientes).

i think my option is better.

take a plane to lima...then to cuzco.  lima is not all that great, but worth a day or two i guess.

while in cuzco locate a tour company (like super tours).  we just happened to find a super exellent guide named feliciano who also took us from the airport to our hotel.  arrange a ride to olyantambo from cuzco EARLY like a 7 or 8 AM start time

the taxi will take you to "olyantambo" and along the way you may stop at a colorful market, see some other ruins in the sacred valley, and eat a great traditional lunch (you pay for the drivers lunch).

You get to Olyantambo by 2 or 3 o'clock.  i don't remember the time exactly but the driver knows (the time is important!).  from there, you stand in line to get tickets to aguas calientes on the train.  The time is important because this train fills up and you cannot buy the tickets elsewhere.  You could overnight in Olyantambo if you must, but it is not all THAT great.

after you buy the tickets to machu-pichu (aguasclaientes), you can go back to see the site in olyantambo.  make sure you know when the train leaves and come back on time.

who wants to be stuck in the train all the time when a taxi can help you EXPLORE other mini-sights and see so much more of the sacred valley?

I am SO GLAD we ran into the taxi driver that suggested this to us.

If there are 3 or 4 of you, this option works really great and it was actually LESS money (even after the expensive but yummy meal we ate) for the three of us to do this option then to take that train all the way through....AND we got out and saw so many things...

when you come back to cuzco you can do the same thing.....there is always a taxi driver going back to cuzco with an empty car.  you can bargain with him to get a ride back to cuzco or just take the train all the way in.

the tourist train is SO very expensive and isn't that big of a deal.  the people posting in here are saying the train is your ONLY option....not true.  take my advice with the taxi/train option.

when you get back, you can take another taxi (or just walk) to the saxyhuaman (s**y woman) and 3 other ruins very close to cuzco.  you do this one seperately (before or after machu pichu) so you have more time to see other remote areas while taking a taxi to olyantambo.
