Question:

Visiting Madrid in August?

I will be taking a Europe trip this summer and I have heard that Madrid essentially 'closes down' in August and that it is very hot (duh!). But then again, I've also heard its a good time to go because there is much less traffic, crowds, and there will be more discounts. Should I skip Madrid?

  1. It will be the same across Europe you know. Traditionally Europeans take their summer vacation in August and escape to the seaside or the coutryside. You' ll still be able to see the sights, go out and enjoy the city don' t worry about that too much. As far as the weather is concerned, yes it is really hot, especially between midday and 4 or 5 PM. Try to stay indoors at that time of the day by going to one of the many museums or indulging in a "siesta" like some of the locals. People from Madrid make up for the lost time of hot daytime hours in the evening and at night where the city gets very animated. In my opinion you shouldn' t skip Madrid.

    Enjoy your trip in Europe!

  2. I've been in Madrid on summer and yeah, it's d**n hot!, but it's also crowded, I mean it's the capital of Spain, don't expect it to be empty or with not many people.

But don't worry, you are gonna have a great time, Madrid and Barcelona are two beautiful cities, good luck!

ps: I wouldn't recommend skipping madrid, but I do recommend you to visit barcelona which is awesome!

  3. My wife & I went to Madrid a few years ago for 5 days and LOVED it. Of course it was in November and much cooler than it will be this summer. I would go back in a heartbeat, heat or no heat. Just stay inside eat Tappas and drink wine.
