  1. I assume you are a guy, sure you can travel alone but it will always help to have a tour guide. women should dress modestly...marakesh is beautiful, you will enjoy jama el fna, and many fun nightlife hot spots like marackesh pacha and so on. yea it's great. take the train too. very fun. i've been there, would love to go there again

  2. Morocco is one of the safest countries in the world, certainly more so than the other countries !!!!

The  best places to see in Marrakech: Jemaa al Fna ("the main square, near the Koutoubia mosque,) is the main point of interest. The souqs inside the medina can be reached easily from here   it's fun to explore and get lost.

In the ville nouvelle, the Jardin Majorelle, Menara, and lots of lovely cafes and restaurants.

    Welcome To Morocco !!

  3. I just came back. You will be fine if youre a guy- I am a girl so I didn't wear shorts but you can. You will be fine. July is Moroccans favorite month. Everyone is out late every night. Its the hottest month there and most people don't have air conditioning so in july most life is night life. the jeema is the place to go- I stayed with in-laws and we took day trips to the beach and another to the atlas mountains. The cab drivers will try to fleece you so beware. always predetermine the cost of the ride. a lot of the time they will try to stick you with a higher price even if you negotiate first. - there are buses that take you to essouaria (spelling?) and to the mountains but they may also try to cheat you- the best thing you could do is try to befriend a local and have them haggle for you= because you are a walking dollar sign to the- they are poor compared to us and they think of us as rich.

Try the lamb and/or lemon chicken tagine and the savory chicken breewats - amazing!

  4. Marrakech is safe enough, even compared to the US. You should be wary of pick-pockets though, especially in the crowded bazaars and other places where tourists congregate. If you are American, be prepared to haggle aggressively, for goods in open air bazaars and souks,  especially during the peak tourist months. They have the idea that all Americans are rich and can well afford the highest prices. If you are traveling there for the summer months, you will need to drink a lot of water. Bottled water is about the same price as in the USA, a water filter (pitcher or bottle type) might be a good idea to bring along. There are so many things to do in Marrakech you will want to return, one week is not enough. Marjorelle Gardens is a tranquil place, and Ourika Valley is an enjoyable and cool excursion outside of Marrakech.

  5. personally i would say that marrakech is good for shopping in the market and seeing men with cobras and monkeys.

but remember--in any touristic place the prices will be higher so bargain with them if you want something--even the moroccans themselves bargain for things, it's expected. also only think bout buying something if it would be cheaper than at home.

it will be hot, maybe go for a coastal city like el jadida--now that is the best town in morocco in my opinion, because it's cooler, there are many shops, it's calmer but still with loads of people in the town center, and very pretty buildings and beaches.

you can wear shorts, preferably shorts that reach your knees.

it is safe, the only thing you get pestered by is people selling things.

check out the proper prices for things like hotels and by the way-- taxi rides should not cost anything more than  11 moroccan dirhams/1 euro/ 1.5 dollars US. You have to flag them down in the street.

      and don't forget sunscreen.

if you decide against morocco, why not go for an european country?

        good luck!!!

  6. This is really the wrong time of the year to go so here are some tips.

It is going to be really hot (over 100° [38°C]in the daytime)... in July the AVERAGE temperature is 97°/69° and most people just stay in and sleep during the daytime and go out at night.

Of course the main thing to do is go to the Jmaa el-Fna where you can try exotic foods, shop in the medina, see the Koutoubia tower (beuatiful when lit up at night).

Most activities start ~4pm and will go on all night long.

If you were going for more than a week I would have suggested getting on a  Supratours bus and heading over to Agadir for a couple of days but a week just won't be enough for you.

    Have yourself a great time

  7. Yes, its a wonderful city. You will be safe alone as long as you stick to the rules ie dont go out late at night in secluded areas, wearing showy clothing nor lots of jewellery - just as anywhere really.

Dress modestly - shorts and low fronts are often worn in Marrakech - its a tourist area, but if you are alone you are more likely to attract attention. And if you were to encounter any problems, its more likely to be from the tourist sadly.

Moroccans are vedry friendly, they all want to help, to welcome you in Morocco. The police are on the side of the tourist, and are walking in plain clothes much of the time to catch the odd tourist tout.

There are many places to go, the mountains for the day or half day, Essaouira for the day - or two. Oasiria is a water park 20 mins outside Marrakech city. Famous Djemaa El Fna is the square where all congregate at night to eat al fresco, in the square or in one of the many surrounding restaurants, listen to the Musicians from all parts of Morocco who come to perform at night in the square.  By day, one can see snake charmers, water carriers, monkeys, souq for shopping and bartering (open from around 10am till 22:00)

Cafe Mabrouks (near the palm trees with lights around them) is a good reasonable place to eat either rooftop, quiet area, or downstairs with the music entertainment.

I could go on for ever, but do a search on Morocco - or just Marrrakech   youll get multitudes of information   and you will really love Morocco - wanting to return time and time again after.
