  1. From Rome to pompeii try to get a train is faster, I went by bus and I spent almost 2hrs. But you can rent a car and wake up a bit early. Pompeii is very nice but there´s not too much to visit once you have seen the most important things, Naples is a very close city 10min drive from Pompeii and from its harbor you can take a ferry to Capri Island "Incredible" And I´m really sure you´ll enjoy your day. "make the most of that opportunity"

  2. I was in Rome and did a day trip there (try viator.com). They bus you, feed you, tell you about it and you can come back via capri.

It depends on how much or how long you want to stay there.  It saw a bit and learned a bit too (with the tour guide), but there were a couple of places I would have liked to have seen (ie  the people lying side by side (made out of plaster)), although we did see some others.

This site had alot of neat stuff.

  4. just to visit pompeii it takes all the day...it's very big! a small city.. but it's very beautifull

  5. at  least  2  days  and  go  by  train  is  cheaper  and  have  a good  time  and  go  to  Greek  town  Herculaneum  too..

  6. Pompeii, first off, is a lot larger than most people think. It is still generally the size of a town if you are interested in seeing the entire thing. You can do it in 1 or 2 days. I would reccomend planning for 2 days and definitely getting a tour  guide because without one you would probably get lost.  Also, I reccomend going to see Mt. Vesuvius as well because the view is breathtaking and the drive up is very fun (it is about 20 minutes away). (try and find a tour online that will do both; I saw Pompeii and climbed Mt. Vesuvius in about 12 hours but I was on a planned trip from college, however, I did not spend as much time in Pompeii as I had hoped). I would drive if you are taking multiple days. I am not sure about trains to Pompeii, check http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

  7. The train from Rome stops at the entrance of Pompeii.  I would recommend that over a car.  You can easily find tours from your hotel.  Driving in Rome is not for the faint of heart and I would totally recommend one with a GPS.  Pompeii covers a very large area, but there are so many places you cannot go into.  Still it's worth it and you can cover it in a day trip from Rome.  One place that I would highly recommend which is closer to Rome is Ostia Antiqua.  This is 2BC town which is so beautiful and calming to visit.  It's not that crowded.  We brought a picnic and ate in the Roman Theatre.  The structures are in fantastic condition and you can explore more than you can in Pompeii.  There are marvelous examples of tiling from the Roman baths.
