Any interesting places for a 12yr old boy visiting Madrid?

I am planing a 5 day trip to Spain with my 12 yr old son who is a soccer fanatic. He also love museums and parks. Any sugestions? As a mother traveling alone with her son, I would like to be pretty much within walking distance and in a very good area.

  1. Travel in and around Madrid is cheap, quick and reliable on either the Metro or train.  There are all kinds of museums, palaces, castles, etc.  Even the churchs are like museums with all their art, architecture, religious articules (like bones of saints), windows etc. Whatever you do, go to El Prado Museum.  It is one of the best in the world. Ratiro park and gardens is just down from it, too.  Go walk around El Puerto del Sol and the Plaza Mayor.  The Inquititions took place there, and there are great places to eat around there - lots of tasca bars with great tapas (bars are family places in Spain, not like here).  If you're there over a weekend, try to get tickets to a Real Madrid "football" match.

Here is a site I just found that might be helpful.  You are going to my favorite city in the world.

  2. Try Madrid for kids:

The football matches are cheaper than you would think! As for accomodation... Go central and you´ll be pleased to know Madrid is great for walking... well "strolling" really!

  3. Spain's capital is an exclusive member of European football's elite. Its status is guaranteed as it is the home of Real Madrid CF, winners of the European Champion Clubs' Cup on many occasions, who play at the five-star Santiago Bernabeu stadium, host of many international finals. See http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/places/madrid.... for more details of Madrid hotels etc.

  4. I recommend Warner Brothers Amusement Park. It is Ideal for children of all ages. You can even stay in an hotel inside the complex. You can also take him to watch Real Madrid match and El Museo Del Prado is very interesting. I hope you have a happy stay there in Madrid.

  5. Please dont take him anywhere boring,I was taken there and I  was given history lessons for 3 days.take him places he wants to visit.

  6. The Archaeological Museum ( Museo Arqueologico Nacional)

Palacio Real (Royal Palace) and Carriage Musuem

    El Retiro -- Park

  7. Take him to a real madrid soccer game, also there are some musicals and shows, also a bullfight would be great for a boy.  Umm i dont know what kind of kid he is but if you think he likes art then go to el Prado museum it has artwork from el greco and many other famous people...when i went there was a big picasso exhibit but i dont think it is there anymore.  There is also a huge park that has a crystal building, and a little lake to go paddling.  This is all within walking distance of downtown.  There is also a big music/entertainment store that is kind of like a mall.
