Visiting Washington Nationals’ clubhouse was memorable for George Thorogood - MLB Update
Rock musician, George Thorogood terms the moments that he spent with some of the Washington Nationals’ players and officials as his best time in 2012 Major League regular season. During the season, he visited their clubhouse and had conversation with manager
Davey Johnson and Bryce Harper, among others.
It is going to become an unforgettable part of his life. It was a fun-filled day with the top-ranking team of the National League East Division.
By the time he attended the Nationals, they were winning matches consistently.
In-fact, they were so effective on the field that it was not an overstatement to believe that they will become invincible soon. They had players that were performing as and when the team needed their contributions.
However, Bryce Harper was an exception at that time. He was struggling to keep his momentum going after putting up solid shows at the plate in the beginning of the season.
In short, he was on the decline by the time Thorogood came to meet with the players in the club.
What amazed Thorogood was the way Harper was singing his song titled “bad to the bone”. Thorogood could not ask for anything more than the fact that Harper was crooning his super hit song.
He may have drawn further satisfaction from the knowledge that whenever Harper made his way into the field, he sung his song for a motivational purpose.
Most of the players use various songs as their walk-up anthem. Both pitchers and the batters consider them as one of the ways they charge themselves up and get ready for their tasks.
“Well, re-hooking up with my homeboy Davey Johnson and meeting the first-place Washington Nationals was very groovy. It was right up there with meeting the all-American hero Kirk Gibson and his henchman, Don "Groove" Baylor. Wow – now that was ‘Bad to the
Bone!’” Thorogood said while giving interview for Rolling Stone magazine.
Apart from Harper, Thorogood had discussion with Johnson before the match at that day.
Basically, Thorogood is a die-hard New York Mets’ fans but he loved the fact that he earned reception from the Nationals as he went into their clubhouse.
Unfortunately the Nationals could not make the most of their impressive win-loss record in the season as they were eliminated from the post-season early.
